I just realized that I haven’t introduced myself!

I’m Jess.  I live in Phoenix, Arizona.  I teach and coach.  One is a job, the other is a calling.  I like to read and watch movies.  I like to write, and until now, I haven’t found a reason to actually write everyday.  So I put everything together: reading, writing, movies.  Duh.

I’m sarcastic, almost to the point of overkill.  I do know how to be serious, and I also know how to have a seriously awesome time.  I can relax after a hard day’s work.  I can throw myself into my job 200% the next morning.  I have a great life and wouldn’t change it for anything.

So what is it that makes me tick?

Travel.  I just spent a week in London this summer before school started, and now I’m ready to move.  I take a yearly road trip across the country to visit my family in Montana when Phoenix is too hot to breathe.  I’ll go two hours to get out of the city, just to see something new and different.

Music.  I play three instruments.  I sing (not sure if I sing well, but I still like to do it).  I have it playing during work time in my classroom.  I have a dock for my iPod in the car.  I have my headphones on while I do laundry.  It’s with me everywhere I go.  If you read my blog posts (namely Nolan films, because Hans Zimmer scores his films), you’ll see exactly how music moves me.  It gets inside me and fills me up, and sometimes I cry because I can’t hold in the awesomeness it makes me feel.

Animals.  I grew up surrounded by them.  My grandparents’ ranch was a second home when I was growing up.  My grandma had a sweatshirt a million years ago (maybe 10?) that said “Animals are little people in fur coats”.  I couldn’t agree more.  I have a black lab/German shepherd mix who lives with my parents (my teeny tiny apartment in Phoenix just didn’t work, nor did my long hours every day) and she’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me.  Now, I help a friend foster cats/kittens for a no-kill shelter in the valley.  I love having a new friend every few weeks, and I like to know that while I can’t give them a home, I can help them get to one.  I love the four-legged babies.

Family.  My parents and brother are the coolest.  It’s so great to be so close to them.  I remember the days when I was still living at home and we all drove each other nuts.  Now we’re all best friends.  So amazing!

Beauty.  Anywhere.  Landscapes.  Art.  Film.  Acts of kindness.  I’m very sensitive, and beauty just makes me sigh.  Or cry.  I am a woman, after all…

Comments.  I love it when people tell me what they think about my work.  Feedback makes me a better person in terms of both skill and life.  I welcome it in all aspects.  So feel free!  And if you like what you read, follow.  I do a lot of writing on here, now that the creative juices are flowing.

Thanks for reading; now go watch a movie!
